How To Configure Mikrotik As A Router In 5min

This is a tutorial on how to configure a mikrotik router in 5min

Prerequisites.

  1. Source Of Internet
  2. Mikrotik Router
  3. Winbox (http://netit.com.ng/downloads/winbox.exe)
  4. A computer (with LAN)
  5. Network Cable (x2)
  6. A timer 😉

Step One

Power up all devices

Step 2

Connect source of internet to port 1 on the router

Connect your computer to port 2 (Na network cable u go use o 😀 )

Step 3

Start the winbox application you downloaded on your computer

1.  Click search (…)

2. Select the mac address

3. Click connect as shown below

Step 4

If you have a static IP from your internet source

Goto IP>Addresses

Click Add

Use the ip address given by your ISP (e.g. 192.168.1.1/24 or 10.98.26.23/30)

Choose ether 1

And click ok

Then goto IP>Routes

 

Click add (+)

Desitnation Address= 0.0.0.0/0

Gateway: The gateway given by your ISP (e.g here is 10.98.26.22)

Preferred Source: your ip address (e.g here is 10.98.26.23)

Click Save

Routes

For users with DHCP source of internet e.g modem or router(glo, swift etc)

GOTO IP> DHCP-Client

Click ADD (+)

Interface: ether1 (where you plugged your source of internet)

Click okay (Leave the setting like that)

Step 5

GOTO IP>Hotspot

Click hotspot setup and follow the image down

If you don’t want the hospot authentication  on just highlight the new hotspot service and click (x)
