Embracing music was therapeutic for Tiwa Savage
Music has been Tiwa’s joy and calling, and she has returned to it.
Around this time last month, Tiwa Savage was embattled. Her husband had made damning accusations against her on social media, questioning her love and care as a wife, accusing her of adultery with Don Jazzy, 2face Idibia and Dr Sid. He also roped in her mother, for her alleged diabolical role in fading his personal ‘star’.
She hit back with the greatest news video of all time, fighting for her life, her sanity, her career and her respect as a human. The video obtained exclusively by Pulse TV is arguably the most trended video ever on the continent. Tiwa went in, with no holds barred, revealing the stuff ranging from the shocking, to the sad, to the outright funny, and blood-curdling.
Her tale was one of woe and suffering, as she had endured mental abuse and disrespect from a man whom she had sworn to give the rest of her life to, and promised her body, soul and unwavering love.
All of that had led her to a bad place, where music was far from her, and the passion that fueled her to create art had been eroded by her personal values. This was a different Tiwa, far from the pop goddess that the world loves and adores. What we had was a woman, laden with unhappiness and mired deep in her personal troubles.
The music was almost gone. Co-incidentally, her video for ‘If I start to talk’, a thanksgiving single to God had just been released, the day before Tee Billz unraveled. That video was not appreciated for its melody nor its message, instead it was fodder for memes, providing healthy raw materials for the creation of jokes, quips and social media banter.
But she is back. As the clouds that had taken a hold on her world dissipated with time, and support from her friends, family, colleagues and fans, the singer found strength and the will to go on. She has since been up and about, gaining her way on social media, showing up in pretty fashion outfits, fulfilling her obligations to her sponsor brands, and most importantly, getting back to her music.
Music has been her joy and calling, and she has returned to it. The video for her ‘Bad’ single with Wizkid has been shot, she has been pictured singing happily with her son, and travelling to exotic getaways with the kid, Jamil. Tiwa has a lot of music to put out, with a single with Psquare still begging for a video.
This week also, great news has surfaced, which revealed that the singer has been signed on to an international management deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation, home to Rihanna and DJ Khaled.
Tiwa has had quite a dark year so far, but music has brought back the light. Here’s to having more good stuff from the Mavins’ first lady.
